The former Bafana Bafana defender replaces Sunday Chidzambwa, who resigned today citing "personal" reasons as the reason for his departure. KickOff.com has in its possession pictures of a smiling Komphela accepting the job, despite officials at the club, including chairman Mike Mokoena, stating they were not aware of Chidzambwa's sudden departure. He had been in charge for three League games, drawing all of them including the last on Saturday against Cape side Vasco Da Gama. Together with Themba Sithole as joint head coaches Komphela guided the Free State side to an impressive fourth place finish in the 2008/09 season.
However, Komphela left for Platinum Stars and the North-West side almost got relegated, finishing 14th on the log, just a mere five points ahead of 15th placed Mpumalanga Black Aces. Ea Lla Koto's spokesperson Rantsi Mokoena was not available to confirm the length of Komphela's contract with the team.
