Stellenbosch in a good position - Barker

With six matches remaining, the former AmaZulu coach still believes they are in a good position to win automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership come the end of the season.

Stellenbosch are currently sitting on top of the National First Division with 45 points, Royal Eagles are second with 42 and third-placed Ajax Cape Town have 41 points.

"We are in a good position, teams below us have tough fixtures coming, Royal Eagles still have to face Ajax Cape Town and also TS Galaxy, we just need to make sure we do well at home and get maximum points," Barker said.

Barker was asked about the secret behind his stellar season at the Western Cape side which sees them with a huge chance to be promoted to one of the biggest leagues in Africa.

"Look, I think our work ethic has been brilliant throughout the season, from the players to the technical team, we understand our eating routine and also how to recover after each game," he explained.

There was also a question about the standard of the NFD especially this season. Barker, who previously won promotion with University of Pretoria, believes the league has improved.

"The standard has improved, the fact that teams from the NFD are doing well in the Nedbank Cup says a lot, we have quality coaches and players and the professionalism has improved to be honest," Barker said.
