SA U-23s to face Brazil police

This is part of South Africa’s preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil starting next week.

The match is scheduled for Friday at Minas Tenis Clube.

Kick-off is at 10h00 local time (15h00 SA time).

Head coach Owen da Gama believes that they will be able to reach their objectives with the practice match.

“We would have loved to play another country, and we did try to arrange with other countries, however, they were not available. We also made enquiries with local clubs but nothing came of it,” said Da Gama.

“We will play the police team in order to accomplish our objectives, which are to firstly assist the players in getting the feel of the high tempo, and secondly to acclamatise to the conditions of a real match situation.”

Meanwhile Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Keagan Dolly is set to link up with his national teammates on Friday, after jetting out of South Africa on Thursday evening, but is unlikely to feature in the practice match.
