Siphika hopes for joy at Vasco

The former Bafana Bafana player, who has also played for Swedish club IFK Norkopping, has spent the past few months playing amateur football at Vodacom League side Matatiele Professionals in his hometown, Mtatha.

“Though I haven’t signed as yet I have been training with the club since I got here. It genuinely looks encouraging because I am gradually fitting into the team’s way of doing things. I just want to play again because I have suffered a lot on the sidelines during the time that I have been inactive.”

Siphika smashed in a wonder strike against Vasco during the Vodacom play-offs when he was doing duty for Matatiele Professionals and immediately attracted the attention of Vasco’s coach Carlos das Neves, who admits he has been impressed by Siphika’s attitude.

“He looks good at training and in the friendly matches that he has played for us when coming on as substitute.”

Since parting ways with Maritzburg United in March last year, trial stints at Moroka Swallows, AmaZulu and Santos have not brought any joy to the 27-year-old midfielder.

Prior to linking up with Matatiele in February this year Siphika had spent 10 months without a club and arrives at Vasco with his clearance.

Many have forgotten that Siphika shot into prominence at Bush Bucks eight years ago before moving to Manning Rangers and then Maritzburg. He has six Bafana Bafana caps and has played in Sweden.
