Shaw set for United switch

Shaw, who flew back to England with his international team mates following their early exit from this year’s World Cup, is set to undergo a medical at Old Trafford before a deal for the 18-year-old is finalised.

It seems Shaw is confident ahead of the move being made official by his new club, as he changed the bio on his official Twitter account to “Professional footballer at Manchester United Football Club”.

Reports in England suggest Shaw will become the world’s highest paid teenager, with the Red Devils offering him a contract worth £160 000 (R2.8 million) a week as Southampton cash in on the £27 million (R487 million) United will pay for the prized left-back.

Shaw will become the Reds’ second acquisition under new coach Louis van Gaal following the capture of Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from La Liga club Athletico Bilbao.

The 24-year-old told his new club’s official website, "Signing for Manchester United is a dream come true.

"I have played at Old Trafford for Athletic Club in the Uefa Europa League and it was one of the highlights of my career so far.

“I have joined United to do all I can to help the team reach the club's objectives.”

Van Gaal will be begin training with his new squad next month after returning from Brazil, where he is currently leading the Netherlands at this year's Mundial.
