Secret of Schalkwyk’s success revealed

Schalkwyk, who was on the verge of leaving Kaizer Chiefs last season, has been enjoying good form since getting a second chance from Ertugral to play for Amakhosi this season.

Paiva said the Klerksdorp-born midfielder is in the best physical shape that he has ever been in since he started playing for Free State Stars more than six years ago.

“Gert and Muhsin had a one-on-one conversation and then put everything that happened last season under the carpet.

“Ertugral told Gert what he expected him to do this season and Gert has grabbed his opportunity with both hands and that is why he has managed to remain so consistent.

“It is good to see the player giving 101 percent commitment on the field. I am sure that if he keeps this up, he will soon be knocking on Bafana Bafana’s door.”

Piava also told that Schalkwyk is expected to be back in action this weekend against Moroka Swallows at Olympia Park Stadium.

Schalkwyk has been struggling with an ankle injury which forced him to miss training for a couple of days.

“I spoke to him this morning and he told me that he is feeling much better and has started training with the team.”
