Eleazor Rodgers scored for the People’s Team, while Tsweu Mokoro scored for the Dube Birds.
The hosts were the better of the two sides in the opening stages and threatened in the first minute of the game with Musa Otieno forcing Swallows keeper Greg Etafia into making a save.
Wayne Arendse then sent a long range effort over the bar in the 16th minute, as the People’s Team continued to press forward.
Swallows’ first chance on goal arrived in the 21st minute when Edzai Kasinauyo saw his shot saved by Santos keeper Wayne Roberts.
Rodgers opened the score in the 43rd minute when he headed home from substitute Erwin Isaacs’ cross to send Santos into the break with a 1-0.
Swallows were better in the second half and went close through Mark Haskins, but Roberts produced another good save to deny the midfielder in the 48th minute.
Haskins threatened again six minutes later, but his well-taken volley flew just wide of goal.
The visitors almost leveled matters two minutes later through a header by Evans Gwekwerere, but again Roberts was on hand to deny the Birds.
However, there was not much Roberts could do when Swallows substitute Mokoro turned his marker before unleashing a drilling a low shot into the back of the net.
The visitors then increased the pressure on the Santos goal, but their game was disrupted by the sending off of defender James Mayinga in the 80th minute for a second bookable offence.
Santos face Orlando Pirates at Ellis Park on September 16, while Moroka Swallows hosts Golden Arrows at Germiston Stadium on the same day.
