SA players abroad


After his start in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, it looks as though Serero has nailed down the starting position previously held by Cristian Eriksen before his departure to Tottenham Hotspur.

Serero's side were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by bottom side RKC Waalwijk, but remain second in the table.

Kamohelo Mokotjo has been a regular all season for PEC Zwolle and played again as they lost 2-0 at home to AZ Alkmaar.

Dino Ndlovu was a late substitute for Israeli side Maccabi Haifa but could not help them avoid a derby defeat to Hapoel Haifa, who won 1-0.

Anele Ngcongca made his 16th start of the season for Genk as they won 2-0 at Club Brugge to move up to second in the Belgian league.

Keet kept another clean-sheet as his Kortrijk recorded their fifth victory in a row with a 1-0 success at Mons. The win moves the unfancied club up to fifth in the table.

Ayanda Patosi was also on the winning side as his Lokeren outfit won 2-0 at Waasland-Beveren, but remain outside of the top six.

Kagisho Dikgacoi started in midfield for Crystal Palace as they lost 2-0 to English Premiership leaders Arsenal on Saturday to slip to the bottom of the table. 

It was a better weekend for Steven Pienaar, who was back in the Everton starting line-up for their 2-0 win at Aston Villa that keeps the Toffees up with the pace-setters. 

It was another game with no goal for Tokelo Rantie in the English Championship as his Bournemouth side lost 2-1 at Leicester City. He has now gone seven games without scoring for his team. 

It was also a bad weekend for Khumalo and Furman, who both started in Doncaster Rovers’ 4-0 mauling at the hands of Middlesbrough. 

Kgosi Ntlhe played the full game for English League One side Peterborough United as they lost 1-0 at Colchester United to slip to third in the table.

Siyanda Xulu was only on the bench for Russian side FC Rostov as they lost 2-0 at Spartak Moscow. After a strong start to the season, Rostov have now not won any of their last nine matches.

Daylon Claasen was not in the match day squad for Lech Poznan in Poland this weeken.

Keagan Jacobs scored his first goal of the season for Scottish second-tier side Livingston as they won 2-1 at Dundee, a game in which one-time Bafana Bafana prospect Burton O’Brien also played for the winning team.

Cheyne Fowler finished his Finnish season with VPS with a dead-runner 4-1 loss to Mariehamn. VPS had already secured third place in the table and Uefa Europa League football in the 2014/15 season.

Lebogang Phiri was back in the Brondby starting line-up for the first time in almost two months as his side drew 0-0 at OB in the Danish league.

Ayanda Nkili came off injured after just nine minutes of Orebro’s 6-1 win over GAIS that keeps them in line for automatic promotion to the Swedish top-flight this season. They need to win away at mid-table Ljungskile next weekend to make sure they go up without needing the playoffs.
