“He is free to talk” – that’s Carlos Alberto Parreira’s message to Mbulelo Mabizela, who claims he is better than some of Bafana Bafana’s defenders.
The Bafana Bafana coach was speaking to the media in Sandton, Johannesburg, and when asked by KickOff.com what he thought of Mabizela’s statement, the Brazilian had a word or two for the out-of-favour defender.
The Platinum Stars central defender says he thinks he is better than some defenders that continuously get the nod ahead of him, like Lucas Thwala of Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United’s Bongani Khumalo.
Mabizela was again omitted when the local squad was announced today.
Parreira says despite what Mabizela said, the bottom line is he is the man in charge.
“It is his opinion. It is a democratic country and he is free to talk,” Parreira says. “In the end it is up to us to decide who makes the team. We look at many things, like the behaviour of players and performances,” he adds.
The World Cup-winning coach added that the door is open to every South African player, but of course there is a selection criteria.
“Players must behave good and play good, then we will select them,” he concluded. by Tiyani wa ka Mabasa
