Magalefa, who previously regularly captained Cosmos, last played just before Christmas in the 2-1 loss to Thanda Royal Zulu and has been complaining about pain in his knee since.
“Acting on the advice of a physiotherapist, Sammy had an operation on Wednesday. He was urged to go under the knife after complaining of pain every time he ran,” discloses Andrew Rabutla, the Cosmos’ team manager.
“With this operation there is no way that Sammy will take part in any further action this season because his injury take at least two months to heal.”
Cosmos have five games remaining in which to climb out of the relegation zone and without the services of trusted services of the versatile 30-year-old Cosmos will be hard pressed to achieve this.
