Now Obua eyes Hearts switch

News

Obua arrived in Scotland on Friday morning along with his Nigerian agent, Jonas Hrutka.

"We have arrived in Scotland to meet the manager for some talks," said Hrutka, answering questions from the local press.

Obua has been on trial at English Premiership West Ham United and was due to play in pre-season match Hampton and Richmond FC, a conference side on Thursday. But his appearance was put on hold at the last minute.

The 24-year-old Ugandan is a free player after his contact with Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa ended on June 30.

It is not yet clear whether he would qualify for a work permit in the United Kingdom, but he flew into Edinburgh to meet his former coach and tour Hearts' facilities at both their Tynecastle stadium and Riccarton training ground.

"There is not much more we can say at the moment. There may be more to say after the discussions with Csaba and the work permit is something we must talk about," concluded the agent.

After the talks, Csaba left with the team for 10-day pre-season training in Germany.

Players from outside the European Union are normally required to have played 75 per cent of competitive matches for their national side over the previous two years to be granted permission to sign.

Obua has played over 75 per cent of Uganda Cranes matches in the past three years.
