Nigeria draw with Ireland

1min: Off we go

2 min: Robbie Keane frees best and he collides with Nigeria goalkeeper Austin Ejide. The Nigeria goalie gets the freekick.

4 min: Shay Given miscontrols a ball and Michael Eneramo puts on the pressure and almost forces a mistake. Given gets the freekick.

7 min: Nigeria put a lovely spell of passing together, a bit like what Barcelona did to Manchester United on Wednesday and draw cheers from their fans That passing spell has brought some reward. The Super Eagles win a freekick on the edge of the box. Utaka hits it into the wall, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, its a throw -n to Nigeria.

13 min: Adefemi Olubayo chases down what looks like a lost cause and delivers a good cross. Eneramo heads dangerously into the box, but its cleared out of danger.

14 min: Liam Morris and Kalu Uche get in a bit of handbags at 20 paces, and it takes the referee to calm things down, especiallya s both coaches were on the touchline ready to get involved.

16 min: Uche takes a freekick trying to catch Given off-guard. The keeper gets a fingertip to it and concedes the cornerkick. Its been mostly Nigeria so far.

25 min: Ireland let fly from distance, but Ejide watches it sail safely over.  Incidentally, Yusuf Mohammed, a right back, is starting at left back.

27 min: What. A. Tackle! That will give Sodje bags of confidence. Keane's back heel gets Best inside the box and as he pulls the trigger, Sodje slides in for what must rank as a tackle and a half. From the resultant cornerkick, Keane miscues what should have been an almost certain goal from three yards out.

29 min: GOAL! Nigeria 1-0 Ireland His name is Mike Eneramo. And he shows just how to score goals. Adefemi Olubayo delivers another good, low cross into the box, and somehow, the Esperance striker finds a way to stick a foot out and squeeze it in among a sea of Irish legs. he was outnumbered, too.

36 min: Ejide comes up with a fantastic stop. Best gets his head onto a low ball right in front of the goalie, but the Bastia man gets down quickly to palm onto the left upright and away.

38 min GOAL! Nigeria 1-1 Ireland Andrews plays Keane in and he keeps his composure to get round Ejide and slot in.

45 min: There's been a good ebb and flow to the game with Nigeria showing spirit and hustle and creating a number of opportunities. Ireland have had chances of their own and the first half score is a fair reflection of the balance of play.

46 min: And its straight to business.Substitute Aidan Mcgeady collides with Sodje. Both men need medical attention but are back to their feet.

47 min: Eneramo gets away from two markers and is clipped. Uche's freekick falls to Olofinjana who volleys wide. 51 min: Oh, what was that??? Strong and bad backpass to Ejide from Olubayo. The goalie miscontrols and under pressure clears it to an opponent. He has to scramble back to his line to make a diving save as the volley threatens to hed into the net. Relief all around.

52 min: Utaka breaks free on the right side, but cant seem to dig the ball out from under his feet and the attack peters away.

59 min: Another substitution for the Irish, who have already made quite a few at he start of the half. Glenn Whelan comes in for Keith Andrews. Nigeria still sticking with their starting personnel.

61 min: Its been a raggedy second half for Nigeria, and as I type, Amodu makes two changes. Osaze Odemwingie comes in for Joseph Akpala, and Sone Aluko gives way for Obinna Nsofor.

69 mins: Sodje slides into a tackle and then pulls up with what appears to be an injury. It looks sufficiently serious for Physio Dayo Ogunkunle to frantically call for a substitution. Its the Irish on top now.

70 min: well well well. Sodje looked about to be taken off and Olofinjana was already filling in at centreback. But Sodje is sent back on. And McGeady at the end of a useful move for the Irish but his shot screws wide.  Trappatoni takes Kevin Foley off for Paul McShane.

74 min: Olofinjana pings a long crossfield ball to Eneramo on the left channel. The Esperance striker gets inside his man and takes a shot, but the keeper makes a comfortable save. Nigeria break again with an impressive spell fo passing. Odemiwngie delivers a cross from the right that is just begging for a touch, but there is no one in the box. And Ejide has to make a firm catch at the other end.

78 min: Sodje can soldier on no more and Nwaneri comes on at the back.

81 min: Liam Lawrence goes off for Stephen hunt, as the Irish make their sixth and final change of the game.

85 min: Useful spell of pressure from Nigeria and its amost shooting practice at the Irish goal. It all comes to nought.

88 min: the ball just seems to be mired in that Nigerian right back position for ages. Finally falls to an Irish player 35 yards out and he skies it high and wide. Nigeria's hundred percent record against the Irish looks like ending tonite.

90 min: FULL TIME. Nigeria 1-1 Republic of Ireland. Its full time and for the first time, Ireland get something against Nigeria. Trappatoni keeps his unbeaten record intact and Nigerians should be happy with the performance of the majority of Amodu's wards today.

Join us again on Tuesday for the big one against France, and next Sunday for the World Cup qualifier against Kenya.
