New moves to reduce crime

The Victim Support Programme is expected to be integrated into the 2010 World Cup and other mega events.

It will involve national, provincial and local governments, with several municipalities being called on to make their environments safer for tourists by ensuring good signage, that lighting and safety precautions are maintained and that trouble spots are identified to reduce the possibility of crime.

A national joint control centre will also be set up at all police stations which will be manned by police and private security personnel. Plans are already underway to ensure that 24-hour courts will be open in host cities during the World Cup.
