De Sa: Lekgwathi has not been stripped of captaincy

News

Lekgwathi was on the Pirates bench, with De Sa preferring Rooi Mahamutsa in central defence in his starting line-up.

This saw Sangweni, a Bafana Bafana defender, being handed the responsibility of leading the team on the field of play.

However, in a chat with KickOff.com, De Sa reveals that Lekgwathi had not been stripped of the captaincy.

"Lucky is still the captain of the team," the new Bucs coach says. "If Lucky does not play Sangweni will be captain and If Lucky plays he will be the captain.

"You cannot make wholesome changes such as the team captain after just a few days," says De Sa, who was announced as Pirates' new coach last Monday.

The former Bidvest Wits mentor adds that while he is happy with the slender win over Stars, there is still room for the team to improve.

"It is good to win a match but we did not play at our best. There are some areas that we really need to improve on and these are some of the things we will be addressing during training this coming week," he says.
