Vasco have hope for Ncaca

‘Mabhuti' has not played at this level for a while, having been in Malaysia for a stint and also in the Vodacom League before that. But early signs are that he is in very good shape.

"We believe he (Gareth) has something to give and we know the qualities he has. He is in good shape and working very hard on his fitness," Vasco coach Tony de Nobrega says.

"A class player should be able to play in any division and we hope he can put his foot on the ball for us, so we can build a team around him.

"This league has a lot of pacey players, but Gareth can slow it down and get a team playing, and his set pieces are fantastic."

Many don't know that Ncaca began his career at Vasco da Gama when he was around the age of fifteen. Vasco's team manager Kenny Gertse confirms this.

But Ncaca broke into the professional ranks with Seven Stars in 1999 and went on to play for Ajax Cape Town, Hellenic, Free State Stars, Bay United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Jomo Cosmos and Moroka Swallows, before going to Malaysian Premier League side Selangor PKNS Football Club.

According to Ncaca, who is now at Vodacom League side Cape Town All Stars, his trial in Malaysia went well and he could be back in Malaysia soon.
