Musonda aiming to add firepower to Swallows

Zambian forward Mwape Musonda has made his intentions clear since joining Swallows FC, following his return from a difficult stay in the Gulf Region.

Musonda spent last season at Hatta Club in the United Arab Emirates, where he registered one goal before being loaned out to Saudi Arabia second division outfit Al-Sahel Club.

The 30-year-old has penned a two-year deal with Swallows and will hope to continue his fine form on the domestic scene, having reached double figures in his last two seasons in all competitions.

"As a striker, it is about goals," Musonda declared.

Musonda scored 18 goals and then 12 for the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons respectively at Black Leopards, who he had joined after periods at Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates.

"You can't be a striker and defend. As a striker, your job is to score goals for the team, and obviously, that is what they brought me here for. That on its own tells me a lot in that I have to score goals for the team, so I think this is a good platform for me looking at the squad that we have here.

"I think it is a great squad with a lot of talent which makes your job easier as a striker because you get the service and all you have to do is put the ball at the back of the net," says the 30-year-old."

Musonda joins a Swallows team whose qualities he says he is aware of at the back of their encouraging run of form last season as they finished in the comforts of the top half.

"I have been watching them from far since last season, and I could see that something is going on, and for sure when I got here, the environment and atmosphere was great.

"The way the guys handle themselves and that something good is going on here. When I got here, I wasn't disappointed with what I expected.

"It shows from far that there is something going, and it feels great to be part of a Swallows team that is moving forward in this direction. I hope my coming in will add value to the team with what we can achieve this season," Musonda added.
