Mulenga was conspicuously missing from the list of call-ups for Zambia’s 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier against Togo to be played at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe on Wednesday.
The 2007 CAF Africa Young Player of The Year told the Zambia Post that he was going into a self-imposed exile from Chipolopolo.
“I’m going into self-imposed exile from Zambian soccer and I will never play under Renard,” Mulenga said.
“Every time the national team is regrouping, there always seems to be a debate about my name.
“The reasons for my decision are very personal and it’s for the best. I’m done with sitting on the bench and being used as back-up.
“It’s bad because they call me and drop me like that, but it’s OK because the season has started well for me and I will build on that.
“I wish the Chipolopolo all the best of luck in their quest to qualify for Angola and South Africa in 2010 respectively.”
Mulenga said he will now concentrate on playing for Bidvest Wits this season, whom he joined in April from National First Division team Tuks.
“So right now I’m just going to focus on playing for my club and doing well for them by helping them to win,” he said.
Mulenga last played for Zambia on June 21 in a 1-0 win over Swaziland in a World/Africa Cup qualifier played at Konkola Stadium when he came on as a second- half substitute.
