According to Sundowns’ doctor Arnold Human the extent of Mphela’s injury, which he sustained during a shooting drill in a warm-up before yesterday’s match, will be examined again this afternoon.
The Brazilians’ technical team immediately withdrew the striker from the starting line-up and replaced him with Lerato Chabangu.
Mphela, who was initially expected in England this morning, was first reported to have picked up an ankle injury.
Sundowns’ Surprise Moriri and Sibusiso Zuma flew out of the country with Bongani Khumalo of SuperSport United after the match to link up with Bafana.
Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane tells KickOff.com that Mphela is the only player that has not joined the squad for camp in London.
“I am happy to announce that all the players are now in camp except for Mphela. We spoke to his manager at Sundowns and insisted that the player travel to England so that our doctors could also make an assessment of his injury, but at this point in time, I haven’t received a response from the club.”
