The Cameroonian, a former international, joined the club following a season in Indonesia with PSMS Medan where his team-mates included Liberians who are familiar to South Africans - defender Murphy Nagbe who had a spell with Durban Stars and James Lomell who used to be with FC AK.
According to DPMM, Mpessa won the Indonesian League’s Best Player award last season.
Although Mpessa’s club is from Brunei it competes in the Malaysian league, which will suit the towering defender well. He is already familiar with the standard of that league because it was his first stop after his solitary season in South Africa where he tasted relegation with Rangers in 2004/5.
Mpessa turned out for Telekom Malaysia and after only one season he went to Indonesia.
Coincidentally, DPMM had earlier during pre-season tested another former Rangers player, Congolese international striker Edson Dico Minga.
