While the serious issue has caused widespread debate over prospective measures needed to be taken in order to eradicate the issues that continue to plague Italian football.

Sterling, who's been at the forefront of the fight against racism after being subjected to alleged media bias and chants during international fixtures with England has hit back at Bonucci for playing down the events.

"The blame is 50-50 Bonucci? All I can do is laugh," he wrote on his official Instagram account.

Meanwhile, Kean's agent Mino Raiola told the BBC that players who are not up to stand against racism should leave Juve.

"Nobody should justify racism in any way or form," Raiola said. "Racism is equal as ignorance. There is no excuse for it. Federation, clubs and players should draw one line.

"A country like Italy should be leading on this given how many millions of Italians live abroad. You cannot be racist and Italian. You cannot be human and racist.

"I am with my players until the end. If in the team or the club there are people who are not willing to fight racism they should be leaving."
