Rusike, Cosmos in contract dispute

News

Chiefs hinted yesterday in a statement that there is trouble brewing by stating that, "The player is currently with Kaizer Chiefs while negotiations with Jomo Cosmos are on-going. Chiefs will confirm the signature once the dispute between the player and Jomo Cosmos is settled."

KickOff.com investigated further and after speaking to both parties – Rusike and Jomo Cosmos, we established that the dispute is indeed related to his contract.

Rusike admits that as far as he is concerned he is a free agent.

"I think it is better if I don't comment now, because we are trying to sort it out quickly," he says. "I believe I'm a free agent," he adds, but refused to comment any further.

Cosmos' communications manager Lucky Mhlathe discloses that the player was expected to return for pre-season, but then he surfaced at Ajax Cape Town. He failed to agree terms with Ajax and he then returned to Jozi, where he hooked up with Chiefs.

"The last time I spoke to Mr. (Jomo) Sono we were waiting for Rusike to report for pre-season and he didn't report," Mhlathe confirms.

"So since then we haven't had a sit down with Mr. Sono to find out what's going on between Rusike and Cosmos you know what I mean. He (Sono) is dealing personally with the issue, because he deals with the players' contracts. I think by today or tomorrow he will call a meeting to let us know what's happening.

"He didn't go deep into it when we had our meeting on Monday, but he just said he was going to meet Rusike's family to discuss the issue and he left it there so we are waiting for feedback," Mhlathe adds.

Sono couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
