The South African-born coach was among the spectators at Swaziland’s Telecom Charity Cup that was also staged at the weekend.
‘Shakes’ said afterwards that the players gave a good account of themselves throughout the games despite that most of them were fresh from off-season break.
“All the four teams played very well, considering that most of the players were from the off-season break. Although they were under pressure from the supporters, the players did fairly well and I thought it was an interesting tournament overall.”
Asked by the Swaziland Observer if there were players that impressed him during the games, Mashaba was evasive.
“I cannot pint-point individuals but there are very good players that I have seen from these games. But my observation was the finishing from the strikers as they failed to put away a number of scoring chances.”
This tournament also gave the former Orlando Pirates’ manager a chance to assess some of the players he has not seen as he prepares to name his squad to start preparations for the 2010 Afcon/World Cup Qualifier against Togo in October.
Mashaba is expected to announce his squad to start preparations for the World Cup Qualifiers this week.
