Nooij to coach Santos

Nooij will coach Santos in his first game against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.

The Hollander had a fairly successful stint with Mozambique from 2007 till October last year, lifting the Mambas from 131st in Fifa rankings to 84th in 2010. They team now sit 106th.

Elias Pelembe compared Nooij to a father figure in an interview with BBC Sport in 2009: "The coach has changed Mozambican football. He gives freedom to the players, is a friend of ours, talks to everybody in the squad and doesn't have favourites."

Nooij left Mozambique after failing to reach the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 57-year-old has signed a contract until 2014, with Duncan Crowie to assist him. More to follow ...
