Maradona, who is currently serving as a sports ambassador for Dubai, has been at odds with the Argentine Football Association since his sacking as La Albiceleste coach in July 2010.
The 52-year-old, a World Cup winner in 1986, was previously in charge of Dubai-based outfit Al-Wasl before being fired in July 2012.
"I will support the UAE and not Argentina because of my differences with my country," Maradona announced at a press conference.
"I urge all the fans to come in large numbers to support the home team."
The tournament starts on Thursday, with Brazil and Slovakia playing the opening match.
