South Africa will face Libya in Tunisia in their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game on March 24.

The 24-year-old has been one of the top performers this season and could not be ignored by coach Stuart Baxter when he named his squad for the must-win clash.

Maboe said it was something that he always wanted as a player.

"I'm excited by the call-up, I've been working toward the goal to be part of the Bafana Bafana squad. I'm proud that I'm finally getting recognition and hopefully we will go there and get a positive result," he said.

Maboe was part of the Maritzburg United side that made history in the 2017/18 season as they finished fourth and reached the Nedbank Cup final.

As one of the scorers on the night of Sundowns' 2-1 win against his former team, who are currently struggling in the league, Maboe had mixed emotions after the game.

"It was hard, these people gave me an opportunity," he said.
