Malawian duo ready for First Division fight


In an interview with, the players said they would have liked to move to a team in the Premier League, but management is against it.

Mponda was linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and was said to have signed a pre-season contract, but that has been shot down by the player.

“I am currently in Malawi just for a week and will be back at the team by the end of this week, in time for the Limpopo Tournament which will also include Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I am still a Leopards player and I am just getting ready for life in the lower division,” said Mponda, who is the Malawian national team captain.

Ng’ambi also added that they will have to live with the situation and fight hard to take the team back to the Premier League next season.

“It is hard to believe that we will be playing in the First Division but that is how football is. We have to work hard and bring the team to where it belongs next season.

“As players we all feel bad with what happened, but we have to put that behind us and focus on the job ahead,” Ng’ambi told

The two players joined Black Leopards three seasons ago from Monomotapa FC of Zimbabwe together with another Malawian, Allen Kamanga, who now plays for Dynamos.
