Mahamutsa has been a revelation for Pirates since joining them at the beginning of the season from Witbank Spurs.
After making his debut appearance in the PSL this season, the 27-year-old has displayed seasoned performances and has subsequently made Bucs’ right-back position his own.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Mahumutsa, who grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs, said he cannot wait for his first Soweto Derby at Mmabatho Stadium on Saturday.
“I am very excited about the prospect of playing against Chiefs and this is going to be one of the highlights of my season.
“We are hoping to get the three points tonight against Platinum Stars so that we can go into the game against Chiefs in high spirits.”
Despite having not missed any game for Bucs this season, Mahumutsa says he is not yet comfortable that he has made the right back position his own.
“There is no guarantee of my position in the team. There are a number of quality players at Pirates that I am competing against for the position, so I have to make the most of the opportunity that has been given to me by the coach.”
Mahumusta played alongside Kaizer Chiefs midfielder David Mathebula while they were together at Chipeya Football Academy in Johannesburg and rates Mathebula as the best player at Amakhosi.
“We know each other very well. He is underrated, but I see him as one of my favorite players in the PSL at this stage.”
