World Cup winner Ronaldinho announced he has hung up his playing boots after 20 years in the sport, where he enjoyed plenty of success at Barca, winning back-to-back La Liga titles between 2004 and 2006, as well as the UEFA Champions League crown.
And Messi, who broke into the Barcelona first in 2004, admits he owes a lot to Ronaldinho for helping him become the player he is today.
“I learned a lot by your side,” Messi told Ronaldinho via a post on his Instagram account.
“I will always be grateful to you for how easy it was that you did everything to me when I got to the dressing room.
"I was lucky to share many things with you and I am very happy because, in addition to [being] a phenomenon with the ball, you are a very great person, and that is the most important thing.
"Even if you decide to leave, football will never forget your smile. All the best, Ronnie.”
