Lyon hand PSG maiden Ligue 1 loss

PSG were out of the starting blocks inside a minute when Kylian Mbappe went one-on-one with Anthony Lopes, but the Lyon goalkeeper stood firm to make the save.

The league leaders opened the scoring on seven minutes after Angel Di Maria latched onto a pass from Julian Draxler to beat Lopes.

Lyon began asserting authority, and after 18 minutes PSG shot-stopper Alfonso Areola produced a superb save to keep out Bertrand Traore’s close-range strike.

PSG soon succumbed to the pressure after a cross from Leo Debious found Moussa Dembele to head in the leveller on 30 minutes.

Thomas Tuchel's troops nearly restored parity soon after as Di Maria’s close-range attempt resulted in an outrageous clearance from Jason Denayer on the line.

Shortly after the restart, Lyon earned themselves a penalty following a coming-together inside the box. Nabil Fekir had no issues steering home the spot-kick after 49 minutes.

The duel between Lopes and Mbappe came to the fore again, as the former denied the PSG forward with point-blank range on 52 minutes.

Di Maria wasn’t out of the picture, as his cross from the left flank found Edison Cavani in the box, but the Uruguayan was unable to capitalise.

Into the final stages of the match, Mbappe charged at Lopes once more, but Lyon goalkeeper came out tops once again with a vital save.

The visitors threw bodies in search of an equaliser, but Lyon were able to hold on for a vital three points on home soil.
