Prins confirms Zobel departure

Swallows had reached an agreement with Zobel earlier in the week that if he fails to notch up maximum points against SuperSport United on Saturday night he will have to make way for another coach.

Zobel has just managed two points in the nine games of the season that sees the Birds stuck at the basement.

A visibly dejected Leon Prins, the Swallows boss, exclusively spoke to last night after the match, almost coming to tears as he confirmed the departure of the man that he only brought into the country at the beginning of last season.

“I am very sad, but unfortunately we had an agreement which means the coach has to step aside and someone else comes in,” Prins said.

Though has it on good authority that Prins met Igesund last week, he wasn’t willing to reveal the identity of the man to take over.

“Please bear with me in that I cannot say who that person who is taking over is, but we will be making an announcement in due course. The coach [Zobel] is going to stay for now. He is going to stay on as he wants to help us; he just doesn’t want to leave right away.

"I feel very sad for him because we deserved to have won the game tonight. We were unlucky tonight because we had some chances to win the game, but that is the nature of the game.

“But the point is we cannot have a change of mind now as that is not going help the situation. We have to stick with the agreement that we had and that’s it. We discussed his future but I don’t really want to be talking about this now,” Prins said. spoke to a few Swallows players on Thursday, and they hinted that their preferred replacement would be former Birds boss Julio Leal, who is still involved in a legal dispute with the club.
