Alaves shock Real Madrid in LaLiga

Los Blancos were pushing for a return to winning ways after they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.

Ximo Navarro came to Alaves' rescue after nine minutes as he got back in time to clear Karim Benzema's goal-bound header off the line.

Unfortunately, that proved to be Los Blancos' only chance of the first half, as the likes of Benzema, Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos were frustrated in the final third.

Alaves, meanwhile, defended superbly but they showed no attacking impetus in the opening 45 minutes as the sides went into the break level pegging.

Similarly to the first half, the European champions were finding it tough to carve out clear-cut chances, while they looked out of ideas without Isco and Marco Asensio, who surprisingly benched.

The game plan for Alaves, however, did not change as they were content with soaking up the pressure with the hope of catching Los Blancos on the break.

Asensio was brought on with 25 minutes to play, but even his introduction failed to pay off against a stubborn Alaves defence.

The goal did arrive but it was Alaves who found the back of the net, with Manu Garcia firing home close range in second-half stoppage time.

Los Blancos remain second on the table, level on points with Barcelona, who can move three points clear tomorrow with a win over Valencia.
