Atleti net last gasp equaliser

Cote almost grabbed the lead for Eibar in the ninth minute with a left-footed half-volley but his effort came off the crossbar with goalkeeper Jan Oblak well beaten.

Antoine Griezmann had a chance to open the scoring for Atletico four minutes later after getting past two players inside the box but the visitors goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic made himself big in a one-on-one situation to make a crucial save.

Dmitrovic kept Eibar in the game in the 21st minute with an acrobatic save to deny Saul the opener for the hosts who had risen the highest inside the box to power through a header towards the bottom corner following a corner.

The hosts were upped the ante towards the end of the half but they could not create clear chances and the first stanza ended goalless as a result.

Diego Godin almost broke the deadlock for Atletico four minutes into the second stanza with a header inside the box but Eibar shot-stopper Dmitrovic tipped his effort over the crossbar.

The visitors were desperately holding on after 65 minutes as Simeone’s men were getting closer to breaking the deadlock.

Griezmann had a chance to find the breakthrough for Atletico 20 minutes before time after going through inside the box but he was denied by Dmitrovic and Saul could not capitalise on the rebound firing over the bar.

Atletico were wasteful upfront with five minutes to go as the like of Diego Costa and Griezmann cut frustrated figures.

They paid for their missed chaces as Sergi Enrich netted three minutes before time to hand Eibar a shock lead, following a mistake at the back, 0-1.

However, Garces snatched the equaliser for Atletico deep in stoppage time with a beautiful strike from just outside the box, salvaging a point for the hosts.
