Krol looks for an edge over Ertugral

If he doesn’t know yet, he certainly will have been told that his baptism of fire will follow in five days, when the Buccaneers meet archrivals Amakhosi in Port Elizabeth on Thursday, next week.

Krol will have the edge on his opposite number at Naturena, Muhsin Ertugral, because he gets the opportunity to assess both the Reds, whom he meets in Durban’s Kings Park Stadium on Tuesday and Chiefs in action before he is thrown into his first ‘Soweto Derby’.

_quote Both local coaches will be looking for the physiological advantage and pre-season motivation that a good showing, or better still, victory over the European Champions, will give them ahead of their Vodacom Challenge meeting in the Windy City on July 24.

Ertugral is already on record as saying that a good showing in the annual Challenge will set up Chiefs for a successful season in the Absa Premiership.

The Turkish-born mentor speaking to this morning as his squad worked out at Coetzenburg Gymnasium in Stellenbosch, has already put last years victory behind him because he points out that Sir Alex Ferguson brought an under-strength side to the country that year as most of his top players were at the World Cup finals in Germany whereas now the wily Scots legend has a far stronger contingent.

“We a great young squad that will give United a run for their money in the skills department,” he added.

Team manager Bobby Motaung who also had a work out in the heated pool agreed with the coach.

“South African soccer has bags of skills, but it is in the organisation and precision departments where we fall down badly. We will try and close down spaces but on a big pitch like Newlands that is easier said than done. But will having another training session at Newlands later this after,” Ertugral added.

“United will show up our limitations. That will allow my technical team to fix our shortcoming before we play Pirates.

“The showing against Pirates in Port Elizabeth is the key match as it will tell me how far we have progressed and that will help us get ready for the start of a successful PSL season.”
