Speaking during press conference after Bafana beat the visitors by 4-1 on Saturday; Santana also heaped praise on striker Thembinkosi Fanteni whose performance on the day made millions of South Africans fans forget about the absence of England-based striker Benni McCarthy.
_quote “I am happy with the performance of the team today. The players are happy, the fans are happy and the newspapers will have something good to write about,” he said.
“Khune was good in the air. His distribution of the ball was good and he commanded his place well.
“Fanteni is clever and has good ideas on the field. I am also happy about his contribution during the game,” Santa said.
Despite giving Khune nod ahead of Fernandez and starting Fanteni, Santana also came into the game against Equatorial Guinea with two defensive midfielders, but also expressed his happiness about both Macbeth Sibaya and Kagisho Dikgacoi saying they both did well.
“They both did good jobs and covered the defence very well.”
However, Santana also expressed his concern about the injuries to both Aaron Mokoena and Bevan Fransman who both hobbled off the park on Saturday.
Bafana Bafana manager Sipho Nkumane told KickOff.com yesterday both Mokoena and Fransman were recovering.
“Fransman was placed under 24-hour observation. Both he and Mokoena will go under further medical assessment on Monday.”
Nkumane added that Bafana Bafana will re-assemble again today in Pretoria in preparation for the trip to Sierra Leone before jetting out of the country on Wednesday.
Santana has said that he has no intention of changing his team for Bafana Bafana’s next assignment this weekend.
