The Zambian international goalkeeper was consistent for his side this past season and pocketed R80 000 for his efforts, while Thabo Matlaba walked away with the Players’ Player of the Season award and R30 000 in prize money.
Speaking to Kickoff.com after the awards, the 25-year-old Mweene, who has been linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town, said he is happy at the club and wants to help them achieve greater things in future.
“I feel honoured and humbled because I don’t think you can’t judge yourself and it better that other people judge you,” he said. “I think it shows that what I’m doing is right and people appreciate it.
“Is not easy for a player to play 40 games in a season and I’m the only keeper in the PSL who has played each and every game, so I’m proud of that.”
He adds: “I don’t want to comment on contract issues, I’m still with Free State Stars. What I can say is that you will see a different Kennedy with Stars this coming season.”
Mweene has been impressive for El Lla Koto ever since he joined them in 2005, and won the Player of the Season in 2008/09, and in 2009/10 the Most Consistent Player of the Year award.
