Parker leads top scorers' race

In just four matches, Parker has scored five goals – setting the pace early on in the race for the Golden Boot.

The season has only just begun, but Parker has laid for himself a solid platform to win the prestigious award.

If the 26-year-old manages to keep form, he will likely surpass the 20 goals scored by Moroka Swallows veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvete last season.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says Parker, who scored both goals in Bafana's 2-0 win over Mozambique in a recent international friendly, is "the best striker in South Africa at the moment".

"He is a hard worker and this is now paying off for him, for the club and for the country," Baxter says.

"He has the ability to score even more goals because his work rate is very high."

The top scorer race may be in its infancy, but Parker will be wary of the players who are following behind.

Katlego Mashego (Moroka Swallows) is on three goals, while Bennett Chenene (Moroka Swallows), Benson Mhlongo (Platinum Stars), Bradley Grobler (Ajax Cape Town) and a number of other players all have two goals to their name.
