Gould suffers injury blow

Gould was injured in training this week and will now go under the knife to repair the injury, after which he will face an unspecified amount of time out in rehabilitation.

It is unclear at this stage just how long he will be on the sidelines, but Achilles injuries tend to take months to heal.

Gould signed for Chiefs from SuperSport United at the start of the season for a reported R6-million, one of the biggest transfers in PSL history.

His absence will also be a major blow to national team coach Gordon Igesund, with Gould a likely starter when Bafana Bafana face Brazil and Mozambique in friendly internationals next month.

It also begs the question of whether he will be available for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, having missed the 2010 FIFA World Cup through injury while a regular in the side.

Bafana Bafana are likely to pair PAOK centre-back Bongani Khumalo and Orlando Pirates’ Siyabonga Sangweni at centre-back, unless Igesund springs a surprise in his first Bafana squad.

Having failed to get hold of the player, KickOff.com contacted Gould’s agent, Glyn Binkin, for comment, but he referred all questions to Chiefs.

“I cannot comment on the matter, it is a medical issue for the club,” he said.
