Sono salutes fellow legend Nomvethe

Usuthu last week announced Nomvethe – the PSL’s record scorer with 121 goals - would retire at the end of the season.

Ex-Bafana Bafana coach Sono, who briefly worked with ‘Bhele’ in the national team fold, wished the 40-year old well for when he hangs up his boots.

"He was a good player in South Africa, that's it," Sono told

"He served South Africa well, I wish him well in his retirement. I didn't know him that much at Bafana Bafana, it was one month [working with him].

"He is one of the legends you know and he behaved well all these years. We wish him well in his retirement. He was not arrogant."

Sono added that the former Kaizer Chiefs forward was one of the best five strikers in the country, though he refused to name the other four.

Nomvethe twice won the PSL Footballer of the Season and Golden Boot awards, while he scored 16 times in 82 appearances for Bafana.
