Domingo could get his shot

He will join compatriots Bongani Zungu and Thibang Phete at the team having last season been loaned out to lower league Portuguese side Pevidém and Norwegian second-tier outfit Raufoss.

New Orlando Pirates recruit Abbubaker Mobara told recently that Domingo was the most talented star he had ever played with after the pair came through the development ranks at Ajax Cape Town together.

But what should have been a burgeoning career has thus far spluttered for Domingo, whose skills are without question, but whose diminutive frame has reportedly put off a number of suitors.

Vitoria have confirmed that he will follow the same path at Phete in the 2016/17 season, playing first for the club’s ‘B’ side under coach Vítor Campelos.

Phete did likewise in the last campaign and ended up making 11 appearances for the first team, including in matches against FC Porto and Benfica.

The 20-year-old Domingo had previously trained with German Bundesliga giants Schalke’s youth side last season and also had a spell with Paderborn.

He also trained with Ayanda Patosi’s Belgian side Lokeren last August, but after impressing then coach Peter Maes, the latter left for Genk.

Domingo was part of the national Under-20 team that won the Commonwealth Cup in Russia earlier this year and also went to the African Under-20 Championship.

He won his release from Ajax at the end of the 2014/15 season after a protracted contract dispute.
