Greece go down to Sweden

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Petter Hansson scored for the Swedes.

Greece looked the better side in the opening stages, with striker Angelos Charisteas sending a shot just wide in the opening minutes.

Sweden keeper Andreas Isaksson was also forced into a good save by Greece skipper Angelos Basinas midway through the first half.

The closest Sweden got to scoring in the first half came via the head of Ibrahimovic just after the half hour, but the striker’s back-header hit the crossbar.

The match remained goalless at the break, with the Swedes starting the second stanza strong and deservedly went ahead in the 67th minute when Ibrahimovic combined with Henrik Larsson to drive an unstoppable shot into the top corner to score his first international goal for more than two-and-a-half years.

Sweden doubled their lead five minutes later when Hansson scrambled home against the run of play, to put the tie beyond doubt.
