Greece crash out of Euro 2008

News

After losing their first matches at Euro 2008, both Russia and Greece needed a win in the second match.

Greece once again seemed out of sorts while the Russians were the stronger side.

In the 33 minute Semak found Konstantin Zyryanov in the penalty area while Greek goalkeeper Antonios Nikopolidis completely misjudged the ball.

Zyryanov made no mistakes from close range and gave his side a deserved 1-0 lead, which would eventually earn them the three points.

Greece are now out of the tournament while Russia need a win over Sweden in the final group match on Wednesday to stay alive.

Spain are now certain of playing in the quarterfinals.
