Igesund targets Portuguese Nunes

News

The 26-year-old was born in Johannesburg, but he is regarded as a Portuguese player, having lived in the European country from a young age.

Nunes, who is a left-back, currently plays club football for MŠK Žilina in Slovakia, but he started out in Benfica's youth set-up in 2002.

Igesund describes Nunes as a "fantastic player" based on the tapes he has seen of him, and intends to call him up for the friendly against Poland next month.

Also on Igesund's radar is Andrew Surman, of Norwich City in the English Premiership. Surman, who is also 26, was born in Johannesburg, although he previously declined a call-up citing family reasons.

Igesund says he hopes to speak to Surman face-to-face and take it from there.

Surman represented the English Under-21s during their 2009 European Championship qualifying campaign, but is still eligible to play for South Africa.
