Gopane puts on his gloves

Celtic are thin between the posts with only Walters and Ugandan Posnett Omony registered for that department and when one of the two are injured, like now, it puts them in a vulnerable position.

Gopane, now 38-years-old, made his professional debut at Phunya Sele Sele in 1990 and during his career has seen service at Jomo Cosmos, Bush Bucks and Mamelodi Sundowns, before returning to his hometown club.

“Gopane is still registered as a player on our books, although he has been focusing on his keeper coaching duties, we do call on him to sit on the bench from time to time, like he did on Sunday against AmaZulu,” says Celtic team manager Khumbulani Konco.

“Walters has a groin injury that he is currently recovering from and so he will obviously act as cover for Omony in the interim.”

Although Gopane has seen no game time this season, he made nine appearances during the 2006\07 season. He is currently fit and well and had not problems coming on as a substitute during Celtic’s game against Ajax Cape Town recently.
