FIFA say no to Silva

The defender was booked in the 2-1 quarter-final victory against Colombia – his second of the tournament, meaning an automatic one-match ban.

Brazil appealed but FIFA rejected it, saying: “The disciplinary committee cannot consider the matter given the fact that there is no legal basis entitling it to grant such request.”

That means David Luiz will wear the captain’s armband, and he insists he is ready for the challenge.

“I’m ready. I’m vice-captain and this group is very easy to handle because everyone’s very down to earth. It won’t be a tough job at all.”
