Real advance to Club World Cup final

Zinedine Zidane's charges showed their attacking intent from the onset, Cristiano ronaldo and Luka Modric hit the woodwork in the first 10 minutes.

Al Jazira nearly took a surprising lead on 21 minutes when Mabkhout's effort from distance sailed inches wide of Keylor Navas' upright.

Real head the ball in the back of the net in the 30th minute but Casemiro's strike was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The deadlock was broken four minutes before the break as Romarinho calmly slotted past Navas after Casemiro had lost possession.

The European champions leveled matters in the 53rd minute when Modric played a fine pass into Ronaldo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Zidane's charge carved out a few more chances with Benzema going close in the 69th minute when his shot took a deflection and hit the upright.

Los Blancos eventually took the lead on 82 minutes when substitute Gareth Bale scored with his first touch of the game with a neat finish after being set up by Lucas Vazquez.

That proved to be the final attack of the half as Real booked their place in the final on Saturday evening.
