Ezenkosi’s website has disclosed that six promising youngsters were promoted to the senior team before the Premier Soccer League’s player registration deadline on Thursday last week.
Those signed are; Thabang Ikaneng Borais (from Manchester United - JHB); Gladwin Shitiolo (from Jomo Cosmos Academy); Jones Phokojoe (from Manchester United - JHB); Phumlani Ngwazi (from Jomo Cosmos Academy); Kulani Mavasa (from Jomo Cosmos Academy); Thamsanqa Zondi (from Jomo Cosmos Academy).
Another Cosmos Academy player, Shaun Herselman, was snapped up and registered by Bidvest Wits while seasoned Botswana international and former Santos striker, Dipolelo Dipsy Selolwane has trekked back to the Cape and signed for the People’s Team’s rivals Ajax Cape Town.
Selolwane had a short spell at Ezenkosi and played less than three official matches. He had been sidelined by the delayed application to be naturalised in South Africa.
Team manager, Andrew ‘Jaws of Life’ Rabutla, says the promotion of the youngsters made sense for the team in the long term.
“The reason we have an academy is precisely for the fact that we want to groom our own players and not rely on ready made material from other teams.
“Our development structure is strong enough to produce future stars for the team and country and, by signing these youngsters for the senior team, bring confidence in them and also challenges the others to do much better and work hard so that they are also looked at in the near future,” Rabutla points out.
Manchester United campaigns in the SAB Regional League in Ekurhuleni.
It is the same team that produced lanky no-nonsense defender, Thapelo ‘Super Glue’ Tshilo who is also a member of the South African Under-23 team.
