Manqele not fazed by competition

Manqele joined The Brazilians from Free State Stars at the end of last season, but faces a tough challenge winning a starting berth with the likes of Nyasha Mushekwi, Katlego Mphela, Richard Henyekane, Simba Sithole and fellow new signing Eleazar Rodgers at the club.

But Manqele, who netted on debut in the 4-1 MTN8 Cup defeat of Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, says he is more than ready to fight for his place.

“Competition will always be there wherever you go, so I’m here to compete and help the team win some silverware. I don’t complain about it … I love competition,” he tells

“I knew that coming here I’m putting myself into that, but I just need to work hard at training and the coach will make a decision as to which player he will play.”

Manqele also reveals that a move to Chloorkop was not what he was expecting as Kaizer Chiefs showed hugged interest in him before.

“Obviously I was not expecting to be here, but with Chiefs it never happened so I ended up at Sundowns.

“Chiefs were more interested because they were the ones who started negotiations with Free State Stars, but at the end negotiations didn’t go well so I’ve came to Sundowns. But for me financially it is ok … I can’t complain about it.”
