Usuthu get KZN bragging rights

An own goal from Robyn Johannes and a further strike from Tsweu Mokoro sealed the points for Usuthu, despite a late rally from the home side who netted through Mzuvukile Tom.

Musa Bilankulu had two first half chances for Golden Arrows, the first he just failed to connect a Philani Shange cross, the second he dallied too long on the ball before shooting.

Usuthu took the lead in calamitous fashion for the home side as Johannes’ back-pass was not dealt with by goalkeeper Virgil Vries and the ball landed up in the back of the net.

It was 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining as Mokoro converted a low cross to give the visitors some breathing space, but they were still in for a nervous finish.

Four minutes after that, AmaZulu goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini could not hold Marc van Heerden’s shot and Tom knocked home the rebound.

But the home side could not force an equaliser and so AmaZulu’s good run continues, while Abafana Bes’thende suffer a second straight loss as they now look forward to a Telkom Knockout quarterfinal against Ajax Cape Town on Sunday.
