Davids gives United first option

Davids, who scored during his side’s 1-1 draw against FC AK in the first leg of the National First Division promotion play-offs on Wednesday, becomes a free agent at the end of June.

Although the First Division Coastal Stream’s top scorer is hoping to ply his trade in the top flight, he is willing to stay at United if they gain promotion this coming Sunday, when they host FC AK at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Rasthoem Simons, of Sports Global Management SA (Davids' representatives), revealed that they have received enquiries from several PSL clubs regarding the striker’s services, but stressed that United remained the player’s preferred choice.

"Yes, it’s true that Fadlu is free at the end of June. We have a few PSL teams interested, but Fadlu is 100 percent focused on gaining promotion to the PSL with Maritzburg United.

"We have given Maritzburg United first option on gaining promotion provided we come to an agreement on financial terms. Thus we won’t be speaking to any clubs until after Sunday’s 2nd leg of the play offs."
