Keet happy to convert Bafana doubters

Bafana put out a gutsy display against Libya in their final 2019 AFCON qualifier played in Sfax on Sunday evening, amid plenty of doubts on whether they could seal their fate.

An inspired performance from Keet as well as striker Percy Tau ultimately led the team over the line to complete an unbeaten campaign, during which they conceded just two goals in six games.

The Bidvest Wits shotstopper refused to take personal credit, however, as he emphasised the contributions of each department.

“I think we’ve all got a part to play in this team towards what this team wants to achieve, and whatever way in which we achieve it, that’s the end-goal regardless of who plays,” said Keet.

“In any position, we have a number of quality players who can step in at any time and do the job, and it’s no different for the goalkeeping department.

“That’s how we want to be, because that’s how a strong team is built and how good characters are developed amongst the players and the national team as a whole.”

The 29-year-old further stressed the importance of the result as well as the achievement, given the negativity surrounding the national team in recent years.

“It’s great and I think everyone is delighted. We’ve had a few doubters, which is fine – you’re always going to have a few negative people here and there, but it’s up to us to turn them around to make sure they begin believing in us,” he added.

“Because it’s the positive people that we want and look at, we don’t look at the negative things, so we’ve gone out and turned things around and we’ve given everyone a positive outlook on Bafana again.”
